Setting: Makhaza
makhaza is a setting i've been mapping out for a d&d campaign with one of my friends. i've kind of been modeling it for use in other ttrpg systems (*cough cough* burning wheel) because d&d has rules that are just not suited for the stories i want to tell
geography
makhaza is vaguely based off of the mesopotamian region. it's honestly just kind of a westerner's idea of the southwest asia region (but i hope to correct that w/ better research in the future. just gotta get the ideas down now and build off of them).
features:
- makhaza is based around the river tunar, which runs from desolate plateaus in the northwest to an ocean that borders the center south and southeast coast (the southwest is land connecting the region to a southwestern continent).
- ma'a tunaga, the northwestern plateaus, is where tunar originates. it's very dry, but something lies deep beneath, providing the water. it is ore- and gem-rich, but rocky and infertile, so there are few settlements there. ma'a tunaga is seen mostly as a provincial backwater, though makhazan nobility downstream does rely on its riches.
